Distinctive Properties Group is a real estate team founded by Kathleen Nittolo and Carrie Schwartz. Our team includes Kathleen, Carrie, Maggie Axelrod-Calister, Chris Danuser and Mark Truscinski. We bring a sense of humor to the serious business of real estate. We put PEOPLE first and do #realestatedifferent. Together we bring many years and miles of experience to the table. Our relationship based approach seems "like a breath of fresh air". We pride ourselves in being experts in the industry, each bringing varied skill sets to address all aspects of a transaction.

Carrie Schwartz has never met a stranger. She immediately finds connections with people from all walks of life. Raised in the Midwest and relocating with her husbands career she knows what starting over in a community looks and feels like. Before her career in real estate she was an early childhood educator and midwife. She has 3 nearly grown children. Given success in sales she has continued to enjoy marketing and negotiating for her clients buying and selling needs.

Kathleen Nittolo has an enormous eye for detail. She is able to connect with people on a personal level while providing the facts and figures they need to make informed decisions. Kathleen grew up in Short Hills where she met her husband. They raised their 3 children in Madison and are enjoying being empty nesters with 1 married daughter and a son and daughter finishing college. Kathleen has worn many hats in her real estate career ranging from sales, to managing the accounting and finances of an office as the Market Center Administrator, to managing operations of a sales team, to managing the entire office as Team Leader. Kathleen provides a great resource to her clients in the multiple facets of a real estate transaction.

Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Maggie has lived in the South Orange/ Maplewood, area for 25 years, sent her children through the public school system and LOVE the area. His extensive background in customer service, creative arts, marketing, and sales, along with training and consulting make Chris an unparalleled communicator, leader, and unique thinker. Chris was raised in Georgia, where his father was a prolific architect and builder. After earning a BA in Communications from the University of North Florida, he and his wife moved to New York City where he began showing real estate in the late 90s.
Though still licensed in New York, Chris has never been more happy representing clients in Maplewood, Montclair, South Orange, West Orange, Millburn, Summit, and Short Hills.
Chris is a father of two, an award-winning screenwriter, director, producer, and meditator. He loves live music, vinyl records, visual arts, tennis with his family, gardening, and volunteering in his Maplewood/ South Orange community.
Providing people with meaningful connection to their passions has been a hallmark of Mark's life.
A native New Englander, he has spent the last eight years as the CEO of fun as a stay home dad for his two children. Prior to that he spent over 15 years as a non-profit fundraising and communications professional for some of New York City's most well know cultural and educational institutions. A lifelong love of theatre - onstage, backstage and in the audience - brings an artistic vision and a focus on the fine details to everything he does. A resident of SOMA (South Orange-Maplewood) area for over a decade Mark brings his love and expertise of the community to our team and can help you fall in love with this wonderful community.
